Spacemen of the Year 1968: It is TIME to Introduce the New Space Explorers.

On this day in 1968, Apollo 8 landed after the first manned flight to the Moon. Although the crew didn’t land on the Moon, they paved the way for further missions. The astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovel, and Willian Anders were awarded Time magazine’s “MEN OF THE YEAR.”
Interestingly, Nail Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were in the backup crew. Their historic Apollo 11 flight was still ahead.
Since then, Time has not chosen an astronaut as its Person of the Year. Among the selected persons, the magazine names primarily political leaders and businessmen. I hope we will see space explorers on Time’s cover again soon.
